Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

As security professionals today we are constantly being pulled in multiple directions, staying on top of the latest technology and attack trends, being expert individual contributors, and leading change within our organizations. As complexity continues to increase alongside the sensitivity of information technology, the need for effective security leadership is greater than ever before. This course is designed to give security practitioners.

This course is designed to give security practitioners the tools they need to effectively lead change within their organization, whether they’re hands-on keyboard or managing people. The truth is that no two security programs should look exactly alike; so this course blends technical concepts with soft skills, provides adaptable tools, and summarizes by giving attendees a chance to practice on a hypothetical organization, hands on. More organizations are starting to build out programs today than ever before, but with an already small pool of trained experts in the field, finding the right people to own and build those programs is a challenge. As a result, more people are being asked to take on these opportunities as they transition from technical roles or managerial roles in related disciplines.  Regardless of where they came from, there doesn’t exist a clear blueprint on where and how to start building a program, especially when coming from a purely technical background. Which security discipline needs the most attention, how does a deeply technical person adapt to the people and process needs of being a leader, which project should take priority, and how do you build out the best team? These are all questions that may pop up for somebody in this position, and they are all important.  This course is designed to give attendees a framework they can use to solve this problem for their organization, their unique challenges, and their unique situation. The truth is that no two programs should look exactly alike; so this course teaches skills, provides flexible tools, and has a chance to practice on a hypothetical organization, hands on.

Attendees will walk away from this course with an understanding of:
The essential technical domains that leaders at all levels need to consider within their organizations and how they both relate and differ from another.
- The soft skills that they will need to study and develop in their new role as they start to balance the technical and non-technical aspects of their new job.
- The strategic planning process and how to adapt that to their organization’s unique context and needs.

At the end of the course, attendees will be provided with:
- Invitation via email to a private, course alumni only Slack team for ongoing support
- Gift bag at the end with the following materials:
- Challenge Coin
- Notebook and pen that was handed out at the beginning of the course with all their notes throughout the course
- Print copies of the following leadership books
- The Dichotomy of Leadership
- The effective executive
- Email delivery afterwords of notes, white
-board pictures, etc. from the group exercises as reference material
- Email delivery of the various templates used in the exercises in a digital format

Everything that attendees should need to engage and participate in the course will be provided, it’s preferable that people are not on their laptops to minimize distractions. Come ready to engage with both the instructor and others!

Attendees should either currently be operating in a leadership or management role or aspiring to do so within the next year or two of their careers.
